Well it al really depends where you are locating the xover IME.
Resistor at speaker level xovers are a very big NO-NO absolutely agree!
That is why I had such a hard time making my speakers reach 110 db all drivers, so I can do without resitors and use only one amp If I wanted to!
Now resistors at line level, in xover are very fine indeed!
But capacitors at line level always take a toll, the insertion loss.
While used at speaker level they are ok. (good ones)
Inductors at speaker level are also bad but not as bad as resistors.
Now inductors at line level can be used instead of capacitors, and that is the best!
Go figure!
