Interesting question. I have no experience comparing true pentodes triode wired with the suppressor connected to the cathode vs. to the plate/screen.
Technically, I'd expect (when triode wired) the screen to capture any dislodged electrons so the suppressor would not have a big effect. But listening always beats theory for relevance, even though it has a poor record for repeatability. Anybody out there who has done a comparison?
