Single Ended Triodes (SETs), the ultimate tube lovers dream.

RE: suggestions for a decent digital front end?

"Decent" is all I have to go on. And I only have my own, limited experience to draw on. Of the ~2,000$ SS models that were available about 7 years ago, I picked an Arcam. 10 years before that I had great success with Marantz's then high-end model, 67SE. The SA-15 models that long since have replaced them also sound excellent.

Today, I have an Audio Note (UK) CD4.1x, but it's pretty expensive. I love the AN approach. It drives both an AU(UK) 300B amp and a pair of Fi Audio 2A3 monos

...BUT...

I also have a MacBook Pro + Wavelength Proton SS USB Dac to use in my summer house tube-PP system and my winter house bed-side tube head amp. system, no SET's involved. If you do decide to go to computer audio, Wavelength USB Dacs are expensive in relation to most of the rest, but produce very high quality digital sound, esp. the Cosecant and the Crimson USB tube dacs. They are well-worth hearing!!

Good luck.
