I'm using an EAR 859 with Lipinski 505 monitors. I've switched the taps on the 859 to 4 ohms to accommodate the 4 ohm speakers. Although 4 ohm they are fairly efficient at a rated sensitivity of 92. The setup is in very small room. Sounds great when the recordings are lean in texture - small jazz ensemble or chamber group - and don't have any dramatic swings in dynamics. During loud peaks and when a full orchestra is employed, there is distortion. Hoping there is a simple solution. The previous owner said he just re-tubed the unit a few months ago. So if not a tube issue, what might be the cause?
