Playing around, I was trying to get an A2 circuit to work right. As a test, I put an overkill driver onto a regular 300b output stage. It was worlds better than what was there before (it was comprised of a 6V6GT driving a power interstage transformer to the grid of the 300b like Shishido).
If I were to add this new 6V6GT section onto the end of the existing driver, I would say that the addition of the extra driver added something special and the extra stage made the system better. In reality, having the 6V6GT driver stage and taking out the 6SN7 stage sounded better than leaving it in because the 6SN7 stage was just extra baggage; the 6SN7 stage gain was just thrown away.
Having the right stages is what is important in a system. A system comprised of just enough "good" stages will always sound better than the same "good" stages running through additional "not so good or useless" stages.
