Single Ended Triodes (SETs), the ultimate tube lovers dream.

I can hook up a pair of cheap Midi speakers to my 45 amp and they will make sound. Seriously, the amp will not blow up or implode. music will come out and everything. and to some people, it may not sound all that bad.

But it is nothing like what can be had with really high impedance, high sensitivity horns. Dude, it isn't even close, no matter what the acoustics, the room treatment, type of music, etc.

It is not about getting volume out of the speakers (I agree with you, there is a lot of volume that the Maggies can do with the 45 SET), it is about getting color, drama, effortlessness, scale, and musical flow that drips with realness. Forget about sonics and volume and being satisfied with getting a suprisingly good volume output with Maggies and 45 SETs, the combo is just plain wrong (and yes, I have heard Maggies with little triode amps).

Have you ever tried Lowther back-loaded horns or big Altecs with the SETs? If not, man, you cannot disagree with anyone here that says your system just is not optimal for the "magic" SETs are capable of emitting.
