For me the 45 tube is the ultimate. The 2a3 is a great tube as well but in the amp I built, the 45 was far superior. The watt and a half that I lost going with the 45 was just not very noticeable.The 45 is a very clear, detailed tube, no grit, grain or harshness. To think I used to listen to a pentode amp with 12ax7's, loooong way from that, not that there is anything wrong with pentodes (luckily I'm posting in SET forum). :)
