I agree that the 45 tube presents a wonderful midrange. I also agree that is does it accurately.The midrange might be emphasized, but it isn't a frequency boost kind of thing -- you describe that but in a more poetic way.
The 45 midrange is great for other reasons, probably including the absence of distortion, particularly the kind of distortions our ears have most trouble dealing with.
The 45 is an extremely linear tube. Check out this thesis where Cheever finds that:
"The type 45 produces the most linear open loop transfer characteristic over a large portion of its operation range of any device I have tested, solid state or otherwise."
