Hello Jon,
You may experince this with the V-Cap during the initial stages of breaking them in. Afterwards, the upper end is very much extended with a great sense of Air. Many of my customers have had to wait through the evolving process of break in with the V-Caps.

Another consideration would be the cap value. The choosen value would be determined by the type of speaker you are using. For a small single driver (and not using a sub) you would want to slightly increase the value to get a bit more in the bottom end. Vise versa for larger speakers with more extension. Go too large in value and yes, you will effect upper end extension and presense.

One of the speakers I used for inital break-in and testing of thee amps was a $25k pair of Usher D2 horns. It was amazing what a sub $1k amp could do with them. Just goes to show how important synergy is in a system. Not that too many people would match up a $1k amps with $25k speakers.
