I don't think the distortion issue that others are mentioning is really the main thing to be concerned about. At lower power levels guitar amps don't distort all that badly. They usually need to be driven relatively hard to get the distortion characteristics that players are looking for - often to the irritation level of any other people in the room...Probably of greater importance at typical audio listening levels is the fact that guitar amps typically have "tone stacks", i.e. tone controls that tend to interact with the gain control. It's quite common for these controls to EQ the sound even when the controls are set "flat". You may hear a really bright sound, a boosted mid, scooped mid, etc., and in some amps it may change rather drastically with level setting changes. The tonal fi is not hi.
