The cornwalls put you on pretty solid ground.I haven't heard the amp.
It's a 2a3 amp and it could put you in the ballpark but you just don't know what row you will be in. There's a big difference between box seats and the bleachers. I think it is hard to just pluck down 7-800 bucks on something I haven't heard.
I have a diy 2a3 that I paid about 600 for. It's a 27/2a3 and I had to use a pre to get enough gain. It has a real good sound. It was built by someone in the midwest.
I heard a couple of diy 45/2a3's and they sounded good too.
If I was in your situation, I would lean towards a diy 2a3 with ac on the filaments. An amp with hum pots, and as good tranformers as you can get. I think you can get more for your money if you look on A'gon for something used that someone built.
