Re: speaker compatibility with tube amp

Like a great many modern speakers, the 4-ohm Thiele has a rated sensitivity for 2.8v at 1 meter, which is 2 watts. This is not very important with good silicon amps, but it is for tube amps - thae actual efficiency in dB/watt/meter is 3dB less. SO with resoect to tube amps, it's actually 87dB/w/m. That means by my rule of thumb (see the FAQs) it needs to see 30 watts, approximately. Thiel's recommended 50 waytts minimum is therefor quite realistic. There are very few SETs in that range, so you may want to look into push-pull. In which case, I would strongly recommend triode P-P with little or no feedback.
