If the HV switch is left on, the timer turns the HV transformer on after about 40 seconds. If the amp is turned on with the HV switch off, the filaments (and bias Voltages) warm the tubes until you turn the HV on manually.I've read here and other places that turning off the HV before turning off the filaments extends tube life (I vaguely recall something about 'cathode stripping'), so I turn off the HV 1st, then the main switch after 5 to 10 seconds.
I plan to install a switch for the HV winding of the power transformer of the ASL 1006/845s I've ordered. Doc, should I install that prior to the rectifier and switch AC, or after and switch DC?
