The crossover between the ESLs and the Mid Bass is indeed at 170Hz. The Mid Bass array does not start to taper until about 70 - 80Hz, which is why I my subs are limited to 50Hz with the 24db /Oct filter. There is enough output from the combination of both from 50 - 80Hz to provide a smooth overall response but I like to keep the subs right away from the real music, and it works!
If you are running only the ESL panels with the 845s then I tend to agree with Ed that you shouldn't need all that much power. But I guess that depends on how loud you like your music!
