As I mentioned in your other thread, peaks and nulls are common and typical. And if you move the measuring microphone even an inch or two you'll often get a very different response. I'm sure you're correct that your room is the culprit. Addressing that will have 100 times more effect than any change in cabling or isolation gadgets.

As for better ways to measure, here's my standard list of links:

Room EQ Wizard, Windows and Linux and Mac OSX 10.4+, Freeware
