RE: I Just Re-read Your Article

I see your problem with the doors.

If you're sitting close to the wall, the 3' width of the panel may cover the first reflection points but if you're sitting a fair way in front, it won't.

If necessary you can get by without bass traps in the rear corners and you could mount the Acoustat panel horizontally on the wall behind you, provided it doesn't block the door to your left as it opens, and simply hang a panel on the back of the door to your right.

You can also simply put absorption for bass trapping on the back of the door to the left, and along the wall to your left. You don't have to cover the corner at a 45 degree angle. Covering the corner at an angle may be more efficient but it's a more complex arrangement and you can opt for simplicity and some less in effectiveness. You can also do the same on the walls in the corner to your right.

My preference, however, would be to not cover the whole of the wall. I think there are certainly benefits to covering the first reflection points but I've been removing a fair amount of absorption in the form of books from my room, baring walls, and I find I'm preferring the sound with the greater area of bare wall. The first reflection points are treated, but the sound is much livelier without the greater absorption area and with more bare walls to provide increased reflection. Provided the treatments you use are effective and well placed, you can get very good sound with less treatment than you think and you may prefer the sound without the whole of the rear wall treated.
