I was involved in the 5.0 and the danged switches were the worst thing we did on that product. Originally we went with CTS Keene switches. These were wonderful, seemed to last a lifetime and fulfilled all of our goals of building long lasting products. Then we cheeped out and went with a British switch from a company called Lorlin. These were supposed to be as good and they were half the price of the CTS rotaries. They wound up being half as long lived. I have regretted that switch decision even to this day.
There's no fix I am aware of. The CTS switches were long ago discontinued. There are still a number of excellent rotary switches available. You need to find one that is a double pole switch with the 5 positions available on the CTS. In some cases we manufactured small replacement PCB's for these.
