I use a six AA holder and check the voltage every six months. I haven't added caps but they last quite a long time. The current set was added in late 2011 and started at 9.64 volts and now reads 9.12

Edit: I was told to add more data- Energizer Industrial Alkaline. Still also test well into the good range on a loading battery tester, I have no data to support any change in how the tweak works today vs when it was implemented.
