Strictly speaking, it's a numbers game, negative results tell you that the phenomena under investigation could not [be] established with any statistical confidence. It's the accumulation of such data alongside with theoretical data such as audibility thresholds that leads many to draw reasonable conclusion.

Now, I think it's not without its merit - but only if we replace the conclusion with "leads a FEW to draw UNreasonable conclusion".
