Technical and scientific discussion of amps, cables and other topics.

RE: Focus Tony

Like other audio objectivists who appeal to Science and refer to Physical Reality, you appear to be practicing the common 20th/21st century religion of scientific materialism. Perhaps I have mistakenly characterized your beliefs, in which case I apologize. It is very hard for me to understand just what are your beliefs, because you have a habit of responding to questions with new questions, rather than directly answering the questions that I and others have asked.

For successful communication, it is necessary for there to be a certain amount of commonality. This starts with speaking a common language, of course, but many words in a language, particularly those of philosophical import, have subtle meanings which can only be understood in terms of an individual's worldview or philosophy. When individuals use the same words with different meanings, successful communication can be quite difficult.

I suspect the subjectivist - objectivist split in audio goes much deeper than opinions on how equipment and recordings reproduce music. In my opinion, it goes to the core of people's philosophy. This does not surprise me, because hearing is the most subtle sense and the debates concern events that are happening at the very periphery of consciousness.

I hope you find this useful. Peace.
