RE: Why has no one mentioned this? Maybe because...

YMMV, obviously.

Polarity and phase shifts are of utmost importance in determining spatial relationships to my hearing. In demanding linear response from my electronics, it would be seriously in error to relax my standards for similar specifications for my speakers, but that's only my experience and opinion.

I would be curious to hear about what parameters you consider to be of greater importance. In considering such factors as frequency response, it would seem that is fairly easily achieved these days, especially if you are amenable to paying at least moderately large sums of money. Very few of the very expensive speaker systems can say that they exhibit a great impulse test response, however, as often can be seen in Stereophile's test reports.
