Actually, Boyk and Sussman take Baxandall one step further by doing computer numerical simulations, generating the actual distortion products generated by each device and in more than one circuit type (They look at single ended, complementary (or pushpull if tubes), and differential circuits. They also model three different amplification devices (FET, BJT and Triode). So I don't really see how you can say he is more thorough than they were.Cheever includes the concept of harmonic distortion audibility and synthesizes an aural harmonic component that is based on known data about hearing. I don't see Baxandall correlating any of his results with psychoacoustic data. Whether or not Cheever is successful in this synthesis is another issue but I don't see any attempt at all by Baxandall.
