In defense of the charlatans, I strongly suspect the type of person that is capable of being an audiophile wants to consume what they produce and has little-to-no interest in what people with a technical knowledge in the area have to say. Personally, I can see little wrong with this since all that happens is an isolated, inwardly looking group forms and has a good time playing by its own rules. So long as membership is voluntarily I see no reason why they should play by my rules or those of science.
