And this is the sort of stuff that we SHOULD be talking about.
Instead of having a host of people tell us that we are wasting our time, people should be comparing and discussing components, or parts that go into components.
Those who have 'golden ears' and good sound systems should compare components and tell us what they prefer, overall.
Those of us who are technical, should be trying to find measurements that really differentiate between different components.
Ultimately we would find what works, overall, and leave the rest to the undiscriminating populace who traditionally buy mid fi.
This is how successful audio designers have done it for many decades.
We have our favorate resistors, caps, and active parts. These have been selected by listening tests, not convenience in purchasing or cost.
Some are really oddball, such as Resista resistors, a German brand, originally found in an electronics surplus store in Berkeley, CA by Peter Moncrief, of IAR.
You will find these resistors in many examples of successful audio equipment that may have its resale value MORE than its original retail purchase price.
There is really nothing super special about these resistors measurement-wise, they don't cost too much, OEM, just five or ten cents in quantity. They were hard to read in value, because they had colored stripes rather than printed values, but they tend to sound very good, especially at their price point, and are still used in some of the best and most exotic audio equipment, even today.
This is but one example, of how real audio designers chose components, and this is the sort of thing that should be discussed on this website, rather than what is usually offered.
