It's a good idea to follow the sequence of the audio path in turning on your equipment. First the pre-preamp then the preamp, then the equalizers if any then the power amp lastly. Turning off should take the reverse route or better yet turn the equipment off with music playing then turn the power amp off, then the equalizers, then the preamp, then the pre-preamp. Electrolytic caps need to charge/discharge and some of them are preventing DC offsets from reaching your speakers which could be detremental to them. Power surges are always happening on the power line and about the only way to smooth them out is to invest in a 1:1 toroid isolation transformer of the correct volt/ampere rating attendant to your individual needs. If you have other entertainment equipment like a large screen TV you might invest in one that would provide all your entertainment needs. Ray Hughes
