Why Sony?The cheap consumer (Sony) recevers have so much bass boost at "flat"...they will make you gag.
I would opt for a used adcom 535 and a foreplay for the front-end with the setup you describe.
A good used yamaha CD player would also yield some accuracy...if it was one of there natural sound pre 1995 units.
