I'm sure it depends on the player. I'm using an old Studer A727 CD player and I have been for five or six years. It's probably from the late 80s and it still sounds better than most sub $1000 players. I'm currently using it as my transport with no complaints. I preferred it to the original Rega Planet, a Denon DCD2560, and a Pioneer DV-05 DVD player.
