Okay 'mates â€¦ below are the latest activities to celebrate AA's birthday. But â€¦ but â€¦ before you get that far, please take a moment to read our shameless appeal for you to either renew or upgrade your membership.

As the Asylum grows, so do our infrastructure needs, and as you may well know, that is getting expensive.

In terms of upcoming acquisitions, we need:

1) Backup power protection. To do this right we needed 2 units. APS 1400VA units were found on eBay for $299 each. This also required a dedicated electrical circuit to be installed. Cost was $1,100. (Thank you, ak645, for your generous contribution that covered the cost on one unit.)

2) New, dedicated data server to offload the main server from the database and search applications.
Cost will be $4-5K.

3) Ongoing monthly cost of T1. Current usage on average is about 75% of capacity and peak usage from around 10AM to 2PM PST is typically maxed. If growth continues, we may need to consider a second T1 or other alternatives to maintain current performance levels.
Cost is $850/month per T1 line

Any registered inmate is eligible to win. Members of the AA Bored, AA moderators, sponsors and their immediate family members are not eligible to play. If one of them ends up making the 1,000,000th post, the next post after that made by an eligible inmate
will be deemed to be the winning post for this game.

Guess closest to the date and time that the 1,000,000th post will show up.

Gifts for best guesses will be distributed based on the Membership Level of the guesser at the time he or she makes the guess. Don't forget that membership has its benefits--even if you don't win one of the birthday gifts-- the most important of which is that you help make a bigger and better AA!

Guesses from non-members will not be considered. Only one guess will be permitted per registered member. Multiple guesses will disqualify that member from participation.

RULES AND CONDITIONS THAT APPLY TO BOTH GAMES

AA will pay for shipment of gifts to the winning members who live within the United States. Winning inmates who are U.S. citizens or residents are responsible for any and all taxes imposed by the United States government and the government of their state of residence on the gift they receive. Inmates from outside the U.S. are invited to participate; but they will have to be responsible for payment of shipping charges for any gifts that they receive as well as for payment of any tariffs, duties, taxes, etc. imposed on the receipt of such gifts by their home country.

All participants agree, as a condition of participating, that the decision of the AA as to the identities of the winners is absolutely final and shall not be the subject of any legal challenge or other effort to change the outcome.

All participants agree that AA has complete discretion to resolve, in any manner AA chooses, any ties that may occur in the games; and to choose the winning entry among any such tying entries.

All participants agree that their decision to become members in AA is for the purpose of supporting the activities of the AA website, not to establish a contractual or promissory relationship with AA with respect to the anticipated receipt of any prize or gift. All participants expressly disclaim any contractual or promissory relationship between their participation in the birthday games and the receipt of anything of value, including any of the enumerated prizes or gifts.

There is one inmate currently subscribed at the Straight Jacket level

Certifiable Loon $250-499

There are 19 inmates currently subscribed at the Certifiable Loon level,
but 13 of them are sponsors and are not eligible to play.

Inpatient $100-249

There are 56 inmates currently subscribed at the Inpatient level

Outpatient $50-99

There are136 inmates currently subscribed at the Outpatient level

Undiagnosed up to $49

There are 48 inmates currently subscribed at the Undiagnosed level

LASTLY

Remember, new inmates can join AA at any time; and current inmates can upgrade their AA membership level at any time. (Only upgrades done before you guess will make you eligible for the higher membership level prize in the event that you are a winner.) So, these membership numbers may change during the time the games are in progress. Your chances of being a winner depend upon: (1) how accurately you guess the timing of the millionth post (whether it's yours or someone else's), (2) how many members elect to make a guess and (3) how many members are eligible to make a guess.
