I dont think the mackie 8 bus is a good choice because its setup to be a recording board, although I have used one in a theater setting that worked quite well. Live guys will find it odd to work on. I have not used the peavey stuff. I have used lots of allen and heath boards and like them alot. The GL series is very good with a very professional layout and sound especially for the money. This would be at the top of my list. If I could stretch the budget, a soundcraft would be atop as well.
