Pro studio recording equipment and music production/industry.

In going through the various forums I'm intrigued by something I read about Pro audio equipment being as good at sound reproduction as some of the higher end pre and power amplification used for home audio such as Threshold, Sonic Frontiers Jeff Rowland, Krell Perreaux etc. has anyone actually done any comparitive testing? I was in a music store today and some of the gear is pretty amazing in terms of its specifications.. I saw one pure Class A preamp priced in the $4000. range and a host of others at various price points. The same with the amplified speakers. They are not cheap either!

Anyone? I'll also post this in the pro audio forum to see if there are any responses there as well.
