Crown back in the day made home electronics.

The D series is good. Most pros I have known and sold to use them for headphone amps in the studio. I have personally used DC300s for headphones. Video guys use the D45 for monitors.

Some would say that the D and DC series were what made Crown amps Crown amps. They don't have much speaker protection, which some would say is bad, but I say is good because it just gets in the way of the sound.

Now Crown is making amps for price points, and that is where the negativity comes from. If you can get a used Studio series amp, those sounded great and had a crap load of power for a home guy.
