I've gone through this a couple of times, now. Yes, lots of memory and you'll need to calculate how much disk space you'll need by how many channels you'll need to run while recording real-time. I keep a separate spindle/disk drive just for recording work to isolate it from the OS disk.

Also, you'll need to ensure your outboard audio interface is on its own controller with nothing else. There are details about this that you'll need to consult with your Interface vendor about. Most recommend the Firewire controllers use TI or VIA chips.

Then there's the issue of Vista support. Many of the audio interface vendors are only now getting their Vista drivers out.
