Perhaps you don't realize it, but when a manufacturer puts TRS jacks on a product, then it's a safe assumption that they planned for having people plug in unbalanced 1/4" plugs. Very likely, the TRS jack is actually an unbalanced input with the signal on the tip, and the ring "impedance balanced" through a resistor to ground.
