Wow, I just plugged a cheap DC "universal" adapter with a switch on the front 3v - 4.5v - 6v. It didn't like 6v much, but 4.5v seems to work fine, and unbelievable--I can hear the difference clearly! Listening to a bass line in this track by "The Knife" on the factory supply is--much hollower! These adapters all come with a variety of ends including the 1.7mm one.
