I can see the advantage to that. I doubt that my PC has been turned off for more than 15 minutes in the 11 months since I put it together, though. :-)

Here's another SlimServer capable device with embedded Linux that someone mentioned in the Slim forums. About $600 without drives, but the four drive capacity will go a lot further for you if your music collection is large, plus you have the assurance of a nice RAID5 disk system. In some ways it's probably not as flexibla as the LinkSYS, since the Linux OS on the ReadyNAS isn't actually open to users - Infrant is going to package SlimServer as one of a handful of ready-to-run applications on the box.
