Definitely worth a try. I would suggest...

You only need to buy mobo: VIA EPIA-EN 12000EG. It should fit in most PCs. This mobo is brilliant - small form factor, very low power, minimal slots, SATA RAID 0 & no CPU fan. As per specs, this mobo consumes 14 watts versus Biostar at ~23 watts (using Core 2 Duo). Thats a big saving. I think using this mobo (with laptop drives) you should get a transport using ~25 watts which is very good!

The only things that worry me:

1. Don't know if PCI slot has dedicated interrupt - this is very important as you don't want to share an interrupt.

2. BIOS doesn't allow disabling PCI's 'Delay Transaction' and enabling 'Master zero wait state writes' features. Both of these have significant impact on sound quality. (Alternatively, you could use its built in SPDIF RCA output).

Use an RME soundcard on this mobo. ASIO processing is done on soundcard taking much load off CPU. Also, on installing XP, disable (in BIOS): Audio, TV out, USB 2.0 & Serial/Parallel ports and other stuff noted previously. Let us know if this works out...
