Yup, disks fail. If you're replacing drives for your 4 bay NAS, I would think you might replace the drives with 6 or 8TB drives. How much space do you have on that NAS, maybe 10TB or so? My NASes seem to grow over time.
I'm surprised that I lost 2 Seagate IronWolf 12TB drives under warranty (3 years) and my old WD Red 8TB drives are nearly 8 years old with no failures. I replaced the initial 4TB drives from the original NAS with the old 8TB drives when I updated the other NAS with the 12TB drives. I've still got more HGST 4TB drives that are all still good from the original NAS. Want a couple?
