RE: Options to Roon

I think you will need to provide more info about your objectives to get any meaningful feedback. Qobuz only or do you stream from a local library? If local, where/how is the library stored? Do you need multi-room playback? Do you want DSP capability? Are you the sole user, or are there others sharing? Do you prefer an all-in-one solution or can you handle multiple apps? I don't mean to overcomplicate, but these are factors in the decision making.

I think the Qobuz native player is pretty good for basic use. For local files, there are many alternatives that other more knowledgeable people on this forum can advise you about. Some are freeware; others are not. Need to understand your priorities to offer advice.

I'm an unapologetic Roon fanboy, but I'll admit it may not be the ideal solution for everyone. I'll also concede that the Roon "crowdsource" approach to tech support can be frustrating. It's kinda like the Asylum: there is a wealth of useful info here but you have to sort through a lot of horsesh*t to get to it. It sounds like you are done with Roon, and I won't try to persuade you otherwise. I'll just say that it works for me, and I recommend it highly.

I've been a Roon user since 2015. I've learned that it can be finicky about one's network setup. I had to make a few adjustments, but it has been rock solid for me for years now, once I got it dialed in. It was worth the effort. I previously tried several solutions, including JRiver, Plex and LMS among others, but for my particular use case, Roon works elegantly.

YMMV, of course.

. . . in theory, practice and theory are the same; in practice, they are different . . .
