RE: Roon to a Sony Bravia or HT 9A

Assuming these devices are on your home network either hardwired or Wifi.....

Roon will auto-discover and 'see' a variety of compatible devices on your network over protocols like Roon RAAT, AirPlay2, Sonos, Chromecast, and even LMS (if LMS support is Enabled in Roon. It is OFF by default).

Roon should auto-discover and 'see' your Sony TV in a few ways. If your TV supports AirPlay it will see it as an Airplay device. It may also see it as a Chromecast device if the Sony TV supports Chromecast. It will additionally see the TV by way of the TV's HDMI connection to your Roon Nucleus.

The Sony HT-A9 speakers are Airplay compatible so Roon will see them as an AirPlay compatible system.

The variety of options available may sound confusing but it's actually very flexible and you only need to "Enable" the option(s) you want to use.

In my system Roon will normally 'see' my Samsung TV as an Apple AirPlay2 device but I have AirPlay2 turned-off on the Samsung and that is why it doesn't appear in the screen shot below. BUT Roon also 'sees' the Samsung TV by way of my Mac Mini HDMI connection to the Samsung.

In my setup Roon also directly 'sees' my Sonos ARC soundbar and associated surround speakers via Apple AirPlay. Roon also sees the Sonos Beam soundbar on a smaller Sony TV in a different room in the house. It additionally 'sees' a Bose 500 powered speaker system that my wife likes to listen to up in the family room. She controls it with her iPad running Roon Remote.

So my point is, you should have several ways to get Roon music to your Sony HT A9 surround speakers.

If a Blue Enable button appears that means Roon 'sees' the device. If you press the Blue button it changes to a Cog Wheel
and from there you can configure the device and output Roon audio to it.
