Hate to refer folks to ASR measurements but the Denafrips Aries II's distortion -- relatively speaking -- is far higher than the Topping D90's.
Very low distortion, IMHO, is a very strong predictor of "detail, speed, clarity, and dynamics". This is true of amps too such as my Purifi amp.
And here's the thing: the Topping will reproduce soundstage if it's on the recording. Tubes will produce a high-relief, "holographic" effect but this is an artifact.
I'm using a tube preamp myself at the moment and enjoying it, but the fact remains ...
