That's what I do.

I ask because some software like Roon authenticates your credentials over the internet and that's also where it gets its meta data. I wouldn't need or want that in a completely portable setup."
I use it in DLNA mode to get Audirvana to the Pi so I control the music with Audirvana on my phone. Maybe do the same thing with ROON and just use Volumio to get ROON to the P1?
