Did it stomp all over his previous DAC, the $2000 Audio-GD Master 7 which is based on the now extinct Burr Brown PCM1704 ladder DAC chip and which had eight of them?

No, it did not. Maybe a bit of improvement but just a bit. Much like when I remove the speaker grills on Joseph Audio 'Pulsars', but that's about it.

If you want to make changes on the front panel rather than popping the cover and making filter and sampling rate changes via jumpers or want and need DSD, then the expense might be justified. Also there was no way I could ever figure out how to do firmware upgrades from Audio-GD in Chinese.

BUT, firmware upgrades will not be easy even with the DENAFRIPS but at lease support from Alvin in Singapore (in English) has so far been good.

At $4500 it should be.
