Thank you; my path is now clear.
I use aiff which has worked well over the years but for the occasional product removed from my consideration because it doesn't do aiffs. I know that I could translate my aiffs, but my library is large, that would take time, and it is not as if the name Teac, e.g., is critical to my component shelves. Besides, I don't dislike aiffs for any other reason. As for wires, in the old days I learned to concentrate on resistance, inductance, and capacitance, parking my neuroses outside the mall. Those are less easy to discover today and in re digital, so instead I look for gold plating (against oxidation) and apparent stoutness of manufacture (thoguh that can be illusory).
