I had all generations of Squeezebox, my brother has his whole house using it, I think he has 5 of them. All he uses is my squeezebox.com
It was great, and it still is. I used to hate apple products, as I get long in the tooth I don't have too much patience for DIY unless it is easy.
I see you are a retired software dev, not everyone can figure this stuff out, when I was working I couldn't even figure out our IP phone system. And I've been using Linux since around 1996, starting with Slackware.
