As far as I know LMS can not see NAS drives.What I did was to create a local music directory on my LMS machine then in fstab mount the NAS and mirror the files on my local music directory. Now I can navigate to the files on my local machine via LMS.
If you want to improve playback on your Rpi I would start with the power and other settings by Archimago
Stick the microSD card for your piCorePlayer install into your computer's card reader, edit config.txt file on the root directory, adding this:
arm_freq=800
sdram_freq=400
core_freq=400
gpu_freq=300
over_voltage=-4
sdram_over_voltage=-4
gpu_mem=16From there power your Rpi via GPIO with a good Linear PS and your ahead of the game.

FWIW, DietPi is under active heavy development by someone who is VERY receptive to improvements. Its base system is probably the smallest around and you can install 'only' what you need to play music on top of that ie SL and ALSA. He also implemented SOX by default.
