Music server choices

Music servers and other computer based digital audio technologies.

I'm looking for a music server set-up that is better than what I'm using now.

Currently I'm running a Mac Mini using Roon and HQPlayer. I have a large (12TB) hard drive of music. This feeds my PS Audio DAC. The issues I'm having is that there is a long start-up time because of the size of the music library. The second issue is that the Mac doesn't like to stay attached to the DAC (for sound output) -- it will play music but, the volume is low.

The Mac is from 2012 -- 2.3 GHz i7 processor -- 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 running OSX El Capitan.

Does anyone have a more powerful solution?
