There are at least hundreds of different ARM boards out there. Like anything else, I suppose it's a matter of which board the designer chooses and how he incorporates it into a complete system. The Raspberry Pi is ARM based, very inexpensive, easy to work with, well known, and readily available to the hobbyist and educators. It has it's early roots as an educational device.
Other ARM boards are geared toward OEMs and wouldn't be so easy for a hobbyist to implement.
The ARM board in the microRendu is pretty minimalist with some supporting circuitry, including voltage regulators, clock, USB chip, and power distribution on a separate board.
