Do you think the extra umph in the low mid that you describe was more welcomed due to your speaker design? assuming that you're using the Thiels. My buddy has the Nu Wave (2016)and brought it over for a listen. My Tannoy's have 10 mids and 10 woofers and are definitely not shy in this range. With my particular setup the QB9 seemed just right in the low mid's whereas the NU Wave, we both thought was slightly exaggerated. My buddy has the larger Dynaudio standmounted speakers (I forget the model). Of course whatever works, works! and I'm glad you dig your sounds!
