RE: Toslink chain - kind request of advice

I use the Musical Fidelity V-Link to convert usb to spdiff and it is a big improvement over the coaxial output of my desktop computer. It has both a toslink and coaxial output. You can find the original model used for a reasonable price or there is a newer V-Link II that outputs up to 24/192 (the original V-link only outputs up to 24/96).
For a toslink cable I prefer a cable with glass fibers. An inexpensive one is the sound professionals that is available on Amazon or ebay. It is directional and you have to experiment with it to determine which direction sounds best. A more expensive cable is the Silflex by Lifatec. I haven't heard this cable, but have read some nice comments about it.
For a dac, suggest you audition the Micromega Mydac. It is one of the best entry level dacs currently available.
