If there'd be one I probably had it already. ;)
IMO LMS must be the base. That leads to following alternatives:
You can run iOS/Android devices (4.1) as frontend with LMS player apps.
Next iPeng 1.6 will deliver 24/96 via USB on iPAd. Or you can use Pure I-20 dock. I'm waiting for my Sony Tablet Android 4.1 update. I'll then should be able to use my Sony tablet S as transport feeding an USB DAC.

P.S: I do think you miss some background about the awful sales/marketing
discussion. You don't even get the message.
